Voltage and symmetry shatter the process-dependency thesis
Observation
The null-hex phenomenon has nothing to do with process-dependency. HYP-011 proposed that entities classified as 00000000 share a common ontological character — they are process-dependent or context-embedded, gaining meaning only from their role within a larger system. Deadlock needs concurrent processes, hazard needs exposure context, qualia needs a conscious subject. The hypothesis predicted 80% of null-hex entities would fit this mold. Instead, voltage, pressure, density, viscosity, elasticity, wavelength, symmetry, and gradient — all concepts with clear intrinsic, measurable properties — also classify as 00000000.
Evidence
Thirty entities classified across two categories. Among 12 process-dependent concepts: 7 null-hex (58%) — deadlock, qualia, traceability, hazard, cognitive load, uncertainty, side effect. Five escaped: race condition (40000300), dependency (00000081), latency (00000200), compliance (000028D9), feedback loop (40B72200). Among 18 property-bearing concepts: 8 null-hex (44%) — symmetry, gradient, wavelength, voltage, density, elasticity, pressure, viscosity. Ten escaped: entropy (0004A200), recursion (0020A400), equilibrium (00008000), frequency (00000200), topology (008030C0), cardinality (0000A000), temperature (04000200), mass (00000002), acceleration (00000200), momentum (00008000). The 14-point spread between categories is too narrow to confirm specificity, and the 44% false-positive rate among property-bearing concepts is disqualifying.
Interpretation
The process-dependency theory was a narrative imposed on a sample too small and too homogeneous. The original 25 null-hex entities were mostly drawn from software engineering and philosophy — domains where process-dependency is overrepresented. Expanding the test to physics and mathematics broke the pattern immediately. What the null-hex entities may actually share is a scalar or continuous-quantity character: voltage, pressure, density, viscosity are all magnitudes. Symmetry and gradient are pure mathematical relations. These lack the compositional structure that activates UHT traits. Meanwhile, topology (008030C0), recursion (0020A400), and entropy (0004A200) carry internal structure — they describe patterns, self-reference, or distributions rather than bare magnitudes. The discriminating variable may be structural complexity, not contextual dependency.
Action
HYP-011 moved to Closed Hypotheses (refuted). New hypothesis HYP-013 created: null-hex classifications occur preferentially for scalar/continuous quantities and pure mathematical relations versus structurally compositional concepts. OBS-STRUCTURALFINDINGS-023 records the finding with trace link to HYP-013. Eight new null-hex research facts stored. Next session should test HYP-013 with a larger sample of 15+ scalar quantities and 15+ compositional concepts, or address the queued divergence analysis hypothesis.
