The observation pipeline was dead
Observation
The observations-to-hypotheses linkset contained zero trace links. Three observations had accumulated across sessions 17, 20, and 29 — one identifying a testable question about context sensitivity in multi-word entities, two flagging structural issues — and none had been traced forward to motivate new work. All three hypotheses were closed. The research loop had been expanding corpus breadth across 16 domains without converting any finding into a new falsifiable claim. The loop was accumulating data but had stopped doing science.
Evidence
The baseline diff from BL-UHTRESEARCH-026 to BL-UHTRESEARCH-028 showed only one requirement added: COR-DOMAINEXPANSIONS-016 (network-science). The hypotheses-to-results linkset held 5 links, all connecting closed hypothesis-result pairs. The observations-to-hypotheses linkset held 0 links. The results-to-trait-proposals linkset held 0 links and no trait proposals exist. Of 25 total requirements, 16 were corpus-log entries, 3 were closed hypotheses, 3 were results, and 3 were observations. Zero active hypotheses existed.
Interpretation
The loop’s task selection logic defaults to CORPUS_EXPANSION when no other task is due, creating a gravity well: corpus grows session after session while the observation-to-hypothesis pipeline rusts. OBS-RESEARCHGAPS-008 from session 17 explicitly proposed testing whether multi-word domain-specific entities show context sensitivity that single abstract terms do not — a direct follow-up to the refuted HYP-005. This sat unacted on for 13 sessions. The structural integrity observations (OBS-009, OBS-010) repeatedly flagged the empty linkset but couldn’t fix it because integrity checks don’t create hypotheses.
Action
Created OBS-RESEARCHGAPS-011 documenting the stalled pipeline and its scope. Created HYP-ACTIVEHYPOTHESES-006: a hypothesis that multi-word entities with domain vocabulary (e.g. “test plan” in software vs clinical contexts) will show measurably different UHT classifications, confirmed if at least 2 of 5 entities show Jaccard below 0.80 across context variants. Established the first two trace links in the observations-to-hypotheses linkset: OBS-008 derives HYP-006, OBS-011 derives HYP-006. The next session should select CALIBRATION to test HYP-006 before the loop drifts back to corpus expansion. Baseline BL-UHTRESEARCH-030 captures this state.
