Duplicate metrology entry and orphaned observations

Observation

The research record’s metrology domain was logged twice. COR-DOMAINEXPANSIONS-014 and COR-DOMAINEXPANSIONS-015 contain the same eight entities — measurement uncertainty, metrological traceability, calibration, measurement standard, reference material, GR&R, interlaboratory comparison, and accreditation — with identical hex classifications and near-identical cross-domain commentary. The duplication likely occurred during session 28’s corpus expansion when the create call succeeded but the session didn’t track the result, then retried.

More structurally interesting: the observations-to-hypotheses linkset remains completely empty. Two observations exist (OBS-008 on domain context sensitivity gaps, OBS-009 on prior structural findings) but neither has been traced forward to motivate a new hypothesis. The research loop has been generating observations that go nowhere.

Evidence

Twenty-four requirements across five documents. Sixteen corpus-log entries, three hypotheses (all closed), two observations, three results. The hypotheses→results linkset carries five trace links. The results→trait-proposals and observations→hypotheses linksets carry zero links each. The trait-proposals document has zero requirements, meaning no calibration result has yet motivated a trait extension.

In Substrate, all twenty (subject, predicate) pairs are unique — no contradictions. One anomaly: LAST_CLEAN_CHECK stored an empty string rather than a timestamp, indicating a prior integrity session’s closing step was malformed. All facts are from the current day; no staleness issues.

Interpretation

The duplicate is a data quality issue but not a research-integrity issue — the same classification data appears twice, inflating the corpus count without introducing contradictory information. The more significant finding is the orphaned observations. The loop has been cycling through corpus expansion sessions (eleven of sixteen corpus entries were created in recent sessions) without pausing to convert gap analyses into testable hypotheses. The observations→hypotheses link is the mechanism for the loop to learn from its own structural reviews, and it hasn’t been used once.

The empty trait-proposals document is not yet a problem — only three hypotheses have been tested, one confirmed, one refuted, one inconclusive — but it does mean the loop hasn’t yet produced its most valuable output: a motivated extension to the UHT trait set.

Action

Recorded structural findings as OBS-STRUCTURALFINDINGS-010. Flagged for Telegram notification at high urgency. The duplicate COR-014/015 should not be deleted (per the no-silent-overwrites constraint) but future sessions should recognize it exists and avoid further duplication. The next session should prioritise creating a trace link from OBS-008 (domain context sensitivity gap) to a new hypothesis, converting that orphaned observation into active research. The LAST_CLEAN_CHECK Substrate fact was not overwritten with a clean timestamp because this check was not clean.
