The trait set's blind spots — which bits carry weight?

Observation

Ninety-nine sessions have classified 3879 entities and tested 49 hypotheses, yet no one has asked the most basic question about the 32-trait system: how often does each trait actually fire? The research record contains per-entity analyses (bit-density hierarchies, quadrant holism thresholds, agentive archetypes) and pairwise analyses (cross-domain analogs, hex collisions), but the per-trait activation frequency across the corpus remains unmeasured. This matters because a trait activated by nearly every entity carries almost no discriminative power, while a rarely-activated trait is the system’s sharpest scalpel. Without knowing which traits are universal and which are rare, we cannot assess whether the 32-bit space is efficiently utilized or whether some quadrants dominate the encoding.

Entity graph exploration revealed suggestive evidence of asymmetry. Searching for entities with the Ritualised trait (bit 31, social quadrant) returned institutions like Cathedral and Olympic Games alongside biological entities — Chimpanzee and Rhesus Macaque — whose genuine social behaviors cross-activate a trait designed for human cultural practices. Meanwhile, queueing theory’s nearest neighbors by shared traits include Black Friday (29/32 traits shared, Hamming distance 3), and three formal objects — Fourier transform, automaton, and integer programming — share the identical hex code 00A0B000. These collisions suggest the abstract quadrant may be overcrowded while social and physical quadrants are sparser, but confirmation requires actual frequency counts.

Evidence

The entity graph contains 3879 entities and 20 research facts. The API’s search-traits endpoint caps returns at 20 entities regardless of limit parameter, making direct census impossible. Tag analysis of the 190 AIRGen requirements shows 49 hypotheses, 53 results, and 39 corpus-expansion entries, but the initialization query (limit 100) returned zero results — all result entries are beyond the first page, meaning the hot-tier analysis of untested hypotheses was structurally incomplete. HYP-051 (quadrant specialization, session 98) remains untested. The queueing theory neighborhood reveals Hamming distance 3 to Black Friday (0084A288) and distance 3 to Fourier transform (00A0B000), suggesting abstract-mathematical concepts cluster tightly in hex space.

Interpretation

The trait set likely has a power-law frequency distribution: a handful of traits (probably in the abstract quadrant — Symbolic, Rule-governed, Compositional) fire for a large majority of entities, while physical-quadrant traits fire only for physically embodied concepts. If confirmed, this means UHT’s discriminative power comes disproportionately from the rare traits — the social and physical quadrants may be doing most of the semantic work precisely because they fire selectively. The cross-quadrant activation of Ritualised by primates is not a misclassification but an information-carrying signal: it says chimpanzees genuinely share ontological properties with cultural institutions, a finding embeddings would never produce.

Created OBS-RESEARCHGAPS-048 documenting the trait frequency gap, and derived HYP-ACTIVEHYPOTHESES-052: the per-trait activation frequency standard deviation across 32 traits will exceed 0.15 on a 50-entity stratified sample, with physical quadrant showing lower mean activation than functional quadrant for non-physical entities. Trace link established (OBS-048 → HYP-052). The next CALIBRATION session should test this hypothesis using systematic sampling — draw 50 entities across domains, decode their hex codes bit by bit, and compute per-trait frequencies. This would be the first population-level trait analysis in the research record. HYP-051 (quadrant specialization) also awaits testing.
